WHITLEY COUNTY 4-H AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS

Every year the Whitley County 4-H Program has various awards and scholarships available for its 4-H members to apply for.  Listed below is a description of each of these awards.  Please see the related links to download more information and an application.

 

B.V. WIDNEY MEMORIAL AWARD           May 1 deadline

Administered by 4-H Leaders)

This award will be given to any current 4-H member in grades 6th – 9th as of January 1st.   Selection will be based on 50% Record of Achievement and 50% questions.  Award criteria and questions will be made available at the Extension Office. Please submit copies of your “My Record of Achievement” forms and the B.V. Widney Award Application in a folder to the Extension Office by Saturday, May 1, 2021. 

Award winners will be contacted and will attend 4-H Awards Recognition on Sunday, May 23, 2021. Winners will also be recognized during the Parade of Champions at the 4-H Fair.

 

HESTER ADAMS MEMORIAL AWARD (Administered by 4-H Council)          May 1 deadline

This award will be given to any current 4-H member in 10th grade and above.  Number of awards given will be determined by the number of applications received with a maximum of 6 awards.

  • Hester Adams Award winners: (2)  will receive $500 scholarships, recognition shirts to wear while helping at shows during the fair, and names on a plaque
  • Hester Adams Ambassadors: (2) will receive $250 scholarships and recognition shirts to wear while helping at shows during the fair
  • Hester Adams Honorees: (2) will receive $100 scholarships and recognition shirts to wear while helping at shows during the fair

 The award will be based on the following criteria:

                        40%      Record of Achievement records

                        30%      Interview – 10 to 15 minutes long

                        15%      Resume (involvement of non 4-H activities will be noted in resume)

                        15%      Essay

Copies of Record of Achievement records, resume and essay must be submitted to the Extension Office by Saturday, May 1, 2021.  Contact the Extension Office for essay topic.  Interviews will be scheduled for Tuesday, May 11, 2021.

Award winners will be contacted and will attend 4-H Awards Recognition on Sunday, May 23, 2021. Winners will also be recognized during the Parade of Champions at the 4-H Fair.

 NOTE:  A 4-H member may only win the Hester Adams Memorial award one time during his/her 4-H tenure

 

JIM TEGHTMEYER MEMORIAL AWARD               May 1 deadline

This award is given to a 4-H’er with outstanding community service.  Applicants must fill out an application and submit it to the Extension Office by Friday, May 1, 2021.  A Selection Committee will judge applications and the award winner will be contacted and will attend 4-H Awards Recognition on Sunday, May 23, 2021. The winner will also be recognized during the Parade of Champions at the 4-H Fair.

Award is based on the following:

  • Community service projects in 4-H.
  • Community service projects in other organizations.
  • 4-H offices and committees served on.
  • Other activities.

 

LESTER & JOY WORRICK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP               May 1 deadline 

This $500 scholarship will be awarded to ONE Whitley County 4-H’er who is currently a 10-year 4-H member that will be pursuing a post-secondary education at a college, university or other similar institution.  The 4-H member must be active not only in 4-H, but also in the community.  Applicants must fill out an application and submit it to the Extension Office by Saturday, May 1, 2021. 

Award winner will be contacted and will attend 4-H Awards Recognition on Sunday, May 23, 2021. The winner will also be recognized during the Parade of Champions at the 4-H Fair.

 

HELPING HANDS 4-H ENDOWMENT FUND                     May 1 deadline                         

This is a $500 scholarship available to all 4-H’ers continuing their education at some post-secondary level.  It was started in 1997 through the generosity of several 4-H families and community supporters.  Applications are available at the Extension Office.

  

WHITLEY COUNTY EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS 4-H SCHOLARSHIP               June 1 deadline

Whitley County Extension Homemakers sponsor a $500 scholarship each year to a 4-H’er who has completed a least five years of 4-H.  Applications are available at the Extension Office.
