Welcome to the 2022-23 4-H Year!

I hope you’ve see some of our enrollment information through the VCSC e-flyer system or various social media outlets. You may have noticed our designs include a world travel theme. This is a hint to our 2023 fair theme stay tunned for our official theme announcement to come in 2023! 4-H has something for everyone so please share with anyone with a potential member in grades K-12. All members and volunteers are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible to make sure you keep receiving updates of upcoming opportunities! Please contact the Extension Office with any questions you may have.

Extension Office Update

Emily Brown 4-H Educator is on maternity leave through the end of November.

Extension Office Hours are 8am-4pm weekdays and closed on Vigo County Government Holidays.

 

Join the Jr. Leaders!

Open to all in Grades 7-12. The club meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm in the 4-H Meeting Room

Most clubs are in the process of scheduling their club meetings for the year. Make sure to enroll in any clubs you’re interested in to get meeting updates when they become available.

Craft Bazaar 

The 12th Annual Holiday Craft Bazaar will be Saturday, November 19th from 9 am to 3 pm at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds. There will be over 80 vendors set up, so come check it out to get a head start on your holiday shopping!

Admission is $1 for Adults, children 10 and under are free. Proceeds will be going towards 4-H Scholarships!

 

CDE Spotlight

A CDE is a Career Development Events occur throughout the state during different times of the year. They are competitive events that allow youth to showcase their knowledge on a specific topic. Vigo County 4-H has its inaugural Livestock Skillathon Team! 

The team competed at the Area V Contest on September 13. Hudson, Wesson, Addison, Channing, Reagan, Reid, Anna, Kaden, Benjamin, Micah, Ali, Kassie, and Martin all did a great job! Reagan was the 5th place Junior Division individual. Thank you to Eric Bowman and the various other volunteers that helped prep the team! We also had 4-H members competing with Riverton Parke, TH North and South FFA.

 

Like horses? Interested in veterinary medicine? Join the Hippology Team!

A great opportunity to learn about all things horse is to join the Vigo County 4-H Hippology Team! The team meets to practice and learn equine veterinary and management knowledge for the state 4-H contest in the spring. If you’re interested contact Sara at shaag@purdue.edu or 812-462-3371 by November 15th so we can set meeting times.

 

Livestock Judging

The Livestock Judging CDE includes placing classes of beef, sheep, swine, and goats. There is a questions and oral reasons division. Area V holds a local contest in April with the state contest held in May. If you’re interested contact Sara at shaag@purdue.edu or 812-462-3371 by November 15th so we can determine interest in a team.
