Nutrition Education Program Introduction
The Purdue Extension Nutrition Education Program (NEP) welcomes Leslie Gackle as a
Nutrition Education Program Advisor for Vermillion, Vigo, and Sullivan counties. Gackle, Terre Haute, IN, has been working in the field of nutrition, health, and wellness for more than 15 years. Prior to accepting this role, she served as a Family and Consumer Sciences educator in several public school corporations. She is also a Yoga Alliance 200-hour certified yoga instructor as well as a Certified Yoga Trapeze Instructor.
Gackle holds a Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education from Indiana State University and a Master’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education from Indiana State University. She also holds an Associate of Applied Sciences in Accounting Technology from Ivy Tech Community College.Best known for cooking demonstrations and sharing food samples and cooking tools, Nutrition Education Program Advisors (NEPAs) offer free wellness lessons for children, teens, and adults. Online or in-person, NEP’s practical, hands-on programs show participants how to stretch their food dollars; plan fast, easy and healthy meals; increase physical activity; and more.
NEP works with limited-resource audiences to improve nutrition and health in communities statewide. NEP helps to positively change adult behavior and influence youth in five areas: diet quality, physical activity, food security, food safety and food resource management.
