Olivia Western is the Health and Human Sciences Educator for St. Joseph County


Olivia Western is originally from Columbia City, Indiana. She currently resides in St. Joseph County, Indiana – South Bend area. She attended Indiana University - Bloomington for a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Following her bachelor’s degree, Olivia decided to pursue a Master in Public Health (MPH) degree, with a focus in Public Policy and Administration.

Olivia has previously worked with the United States Department of Veteran Affairs - Veterans Health Administration in Indianapolis, where she worked with a variety of clinical professionals in clinical process improvement initiatives. In addition to working with clinical process improvement, Olivia has also spent time working as a Graduate Assistant to Dr. Noy Kay of the School of Public Health at Indiana University Bloomington. During her time with Dr. Kay, Olivia assisted in lectures for “International Health” and lead discussions in the “Death and Dying” course for undergraduate students.

She is currently active in St. Joseph County through Purdue Extension in her role as a Health and Human Sciences Extension Educator. Olivia provides evidence-based educational programming focused on food, family, money, and health to the residents of St. Joseph County, Indiana. In addition to programming, Olivia serves as the current Vice-Chair for the Partnership for a Drug-Free St. Joseph County, and is involved in other local coalitions such as the St. Joseph County Health Improvement Alliance, St. Joseph County Food Access Coalition, and Reducing Obesity Coalition. Olivia is also a member of IN Connections in Health, Indiana Hoosier Health and Wellness Alliance, Indiana Public Health Association, American Public Health Association, Indiana Extension Educator Association, and the National Extension Association for Family and Consumer Sciences.
