PEMC joins Indy Free Tax Prep at VITA kick off

PEMC has partnered with Indy Free Tax Prep, which is a network of Volunteer Income Tax Assistant Program (VITA) sites to bring a series of Financial Education classes in February and March of 2022. VITA offers free tax preparation to individuals and families with a combined 2021 income of $66,000 or less.

Mayor Joe Hogsett, John Helling from the Indianapolis Public Library, Purdue Extension Health and Human Sciences Educator, Ashley Piland, Kate McKnight from the Internal Revenue Service, Vice President of Government Relations at the United Way of Central Indiana, Anne Valentine, AMVETS Commander Gonzales Calloway, and VITA volunteers were all in attendance to kick off the VITA Tax program at the Indianapolis Public Library.

"To a family the value of the Indy Free Tax program is clear," said Anne Valentine, VP of Government Relations at the United Way of Central Indiana, "it's free, it's trusted, it's accurate, and the result is likely a much needed tax refund."

"Purdue Extension is partnering up with the Indy Free Tax Prep program where we will provide financial education classes to the community," said Ashley Piland, Health and Human Sciences Educator at PEMC. "Both of our classes will provide education and asset building to the community to help create more finanical stability in our families."

The 2022 VITA tax season will run through May 3, 2022. You can learn more about the Indy Free Tax Prep program and find a VITA location near you by visiting their website
