Cheyenne Boggs won’t miss out on anything she feels passionate about, saying time management skills she learned in 4-H are part of what helps her manage her full schedule.
A senior at Hamilton Heights High School, Cheyenne Boggs, 17, takes the 4-H skills of time management and public speaking to the next level as she juggles school, 4-H, FFA, competitive archery, a part-time job, and more.
Starting her tenth and final year in 4-H, Boggs enjoys the Junior Leaders, Goats, Soil & Water Conservation, and Cake Decorating projects.
“The people I’ve met and friendships that I’ve made through 4-H carry over into different activities like FFA,” said Boggs.
Boggs also serves as the current Hamilton County 4-H Queen.
“If you make it your mission to follow the 4-H motto “making the best better,” you will come across opportunities that you can’t pass up. Stepping out of your comfort zone, like I did to compete in Miss Hamilton County, will form connections and grow you as an individual in ways you never imagined,” said Boggs.
She notes that learning to be a better public speaker and understanding the importance of community involvement have come from her time in 4-H. These skills spill over into all her activities.
“Balancing all my activities is not for the weak. Most school days I leave my house at 7:00 a.m. and get home around 9:00 p.m. I love it. I also have a very flexible part-time job, which allows me to work around my other events,” said Boggs.
“There are days I have to split my time between a Junior Leader meeting and an FFA Skillathon practice or vice versa. When you are passionate about something, you work hard for it."
Boggs enjoys her busy lifestyle and feels confident that all her juggling will pay off in the future. She uses a Google calendar and a paper calendar to stay organized. When faced with conflicts or challenges, Boggs doesn’t scale back.
“I don’t scale back from an activity just because I can’t fit it into my schedule. Chances are if I talk the situation out with a mentor or advisor, we will get it figured out so I don’t have to miss out on things I am passionate about,” said Boggs.
