COUNTY REQUIREMENTS

All livestock exhibitors MUST complete the animal I.D. portion of 4HOnline. This takes the place of the carbon enrollment forms. This must be completed by May 15. This DOES NOT enter you for the Indiana State Fair. See State Fair Animal Entry Registration on page 40!

  1. 4H members must identify all Dairy Cattle in the Indiana 4-H Online Animal ID system by May 15 to be eligible for exhibition. The online animal ID website is located at: https://in.4honline.comIt is these ID types that are required to be in Indiana 4-H Online by the respective deadline. Any of these IDs that are missing, incomplete or incorrect will result in state fair ineligibility. The table of correct Animal ID’s can be found in this book under Required Animal ID Per Species.
  2. All Dairy Lease forms are due to the Extension Office by May 15.
  3. 4HOnline information will be mailed in April to all animal members who must submit their animal ID online.
  4. All registered and non-registered dairy must be enrolled in 4HOnline by May 15 to be eligible for exhibition.
  5. Dairy Steer Feeder Calves will need to be tagged by May 15, if you want to exhibit them at the State Fair. You will need to contact your project leader to tag your animal.
  6. Mini 4-H will exhibit animals already on fairgrounds with the help of an older 4-H Dairy member.
  7. All pen assignment forms will be mailed in June.
  8. Fair Entry Registration - A 4-H member may show more than one breed. The exhibitor may show a maximum of one animal in each of the age groups per breed.
  9. 4-H members with Commercial dairy females must abide by the same rules and class arrangements for the registered animals. 4-Hers will show them separately from the registered animals until the Supreme Dairy Show.
  10. 4-H Supreme Champion dairy animals in previous 4-H Shows at the Delaware County Fair are not eligible to show in either the 3-year-old or older classes.
  11. All animals must be substantially tied to stalls, including neck rope (1/2" rope or the equivalent).
  12. To show a cow in production only: The animal may be brought to the fair on the day of exhibit and taken home after exhibiting. Other animals must abide by regular entry and release regulations.
  13. In showing for Dairy Showmanship, the animal may be any age. The member must show their own animal in the Showmanship contest and this animal must have been exhibited in a previous class that day.
  14. All purebred animals will be required to have registration papers signed by the secretary of the respective breed organization and registered to the club members and/or their family and checked at time of unloading.
  15. A completed record sheet must be turned in the day of unloading.
  16. Dairy steers shall meet the same guidelines as beef steers. They will show during the Beef Show.
  17. Proof of registration (registration papers of dam) is acceptable for the Spring Calf Class.
  18. A dairy member may own and lease animals at the county level only (for heifers and milk cows).
  19. Dairy Show Structure:-Commercial classes  no papers, but the animal’s dam and sire must be from a world recognized dairy breed. This category includes both grade and crossbreds.
  20. -Registered breed classes  with registration papers.

CLASSES:

K - 2nd grade. (Mini 4-H)

Spring Calf: born March 1 of current year

Winter Calf: born between Dec 1 last year to Feb. 28 current year

Fall Calf: born between Sept 1 to Nov 30 last year

Summer Yearling: born between June 1 to Aug 31 last year

Spring Yearling: born between March 1 to May 31 last year

Winter Yearling: born Dec 1, 2018 to Feb 28, 2019 (or last year)

Fall Yearling: born between Sept 1, 2018 to Nov 30, 2018

Junior 2-Year Old Cow: born between March 1, 2018 to Aug. 31, 2018

2-Year Old Cow: born between Sept 1, 2017 to Feb 28, 2018

3-Year Old Cow: born between Sept 1, 2016 to Aug 31, 2017

4-Year Old & Over Cow: born between Sept 1, 2015 to Aug 31, 2016

5-Year Old & Over Cow: born prior to Aug 31, 2015

Showmanship: Beginner, Junior, & Senior (must show your own animal).
