COUNTY REQUIREMENTS

All livestock exhibitors MUST complete the animal I.D. portion of 4HOnline. This must be completed by May 15. This DOES NOT enter you for the Indiana State Fair. See State Fair Animal Entry on page 40!

Show Order: Ewes, Market Lambs, and Showmanship

      1. All sheep must be identified in the Indiana 4-H Online Animal ID system by May 15 or earlier deadline set by county. Any animal ID’s that are missing, incomplete or incorrect will result in state fair ineligibility.
      2. For Indiana State Fair eligibility, see Indiana 4-H Animal Identifications on page 32 of the Fair book. DNA envelopes and RFID tags can be picked up in the county Extension office.
      3. 4HOnline information will be mailed in April to all animal members who must submit their animal ID online.
      4. Registered and commercial ewes will show in separate classes.
      5. All animals in a "pair of ewes" class must be owned by the individual exhibiting them. Both of these must be shown as a single.
      6. All animals going to state fair must be retinal scanned. All market animals, registered ewes, and commercial ewes must be ear-tagged at weigh-in.

 

 

      1. Fair Entry Registration, an exhibitor may register up to 10 animals. An exhibitor may exhibit no more than 2 entries in any breeding ewe class and four market lambs.
      2. All pen assignment forms will be mailed in June!
      3. All lambs shown must be docked or in accordance of breed standards, and market lambs must be slick sheared. Male lambs must be castrated. Indiana State Fair Recognized Breeds that will be honored at the Delaware County Fair.

      1. Market lambs must weigh a minimum of 80 pounds to be eligible to compete for Grand Champion and sell in the Auction. You may have a helper assist you with showing a Yearling Ewe only. 
      2. No straw for bedding for market lambs, but wool breed may use straw.

CLASSES:

Purebred Ewe Lamb: Must have been born after September 1 of last year.

Purebred Pair-Of-Ewe Lambs: Must have been born after September 1 of last year. The 2 lambs must be of the same breed. Both must be shown as singles.

Purebred Yearling Ewe: Must be 1 year old, but cannot be 2 years old at show time.

Purebred Pair-Of-Yearling Ewes: Must be 1 year old, but cannot be 2 years old at show time. Both must be shown as singles.

Commercial Ewe Lamb: Must have been born after September 1 of last year.

Commercial Pair-Of-Ewe Lambs: Must have been born after September 1 of last year. Both must be shown as singles.

Commercial Yearling Ewe: Must be 1 year old, but cannot be 2 years old at show time.

Commercial Pair-Of-Yearling Ewes: Must be 1 year old, but cannot be 2 years old at show time. Both must be shown as singles.

Supreme Champion Ewe: All purebred & commercial ewe champions will show for supreme champion.

Market Lamb: Will consist of a wether or ewe spring lamb, grade or purebred. Lambs shown in a breeding class are not eligible to show as a market animal.

Showmanship: Beginner, Junior, Senior (must show your own animal).

 

 

4-H LAMB RATE-OF-GAIN

Goats will be recognized by calculating rate-of-gain to determine official winner.

Any 4-H member that is showing a market lamb and or a commercial ewe lamb may participate. NO yearlings or registered ewes (lambs or yearlings). Lambs must be weighed in at the Animal ID event. Scales will not be available to go to farms.
