Mini 4-H

**At this time, no Fair Entry is required for mini members!**

Mini 4-H is open to all grades K-2. It is suggested that youth exhibit one to three projects. Members have the opportunity to explore non-livestock projects, as well as Mini 4-H livestock projects. After completing an activity for each non-livestock project your child is enrolled, he/she is encouraged to bring their project(s) to the   4-H Fair to be displayed during the Fair. Exhibits are non-competitively judge and all exhibits will receive a ribbon. There is no cost for the Mini project manuals or to join Mini 4-H. Members need to re-enroll each year to receive information. Suggested exhibits are listed in the manuals. *Be sure to check project manuals for specific project requirements.  

 

** No additional enrollments with animals (livestock) or Memorial Building projects will be accepted after May 15.

Important Notes for Sewing and Animal projects:

Mini Sewing - Can participate in the Fashion Review program. The Mini 4-H member will need to bring their sewing item to practice. See fair schedule in front of this book or call the Extension Office for practice date and time.

Mini Animals - Dairy, Goats, Horse & Pony, Poultry, Rabbits, Sheep, Dog Obedience, and Swine are all hands-on. After enrolling in 4-H, contact Extension Office for workshop information. To participate in the livestock show, mini member MUST be enrolled in that project. WORKSHOPS: Mini members MUST attend animal workshops, if they want to show an animal.

**NOTE: ONLY THE POULTRY, RABBIT AND HORSE AND PONY 4-H MEMBERS BRING THEIR OWN ANIMALS. ALL OTHER ANIMAL PROJECTS USE ANIMALS ALREADY AT THE FAIR.

**Mini livestock members will receive everything regarding 4-H livestock. If Mini member is bringing their own livestock animal, then a pen assignment will need to be completed and return to the Extension Office. This is done in June.

Mini Projects:

Bicycle - Learn about choosing a bike, bike maintenance, traffic rules, hazards of the road, safety, and helmets.

Bug - In this project explore the world of bugs. Find out how bugs are alike and different, where they go in the winter, and the jobs bugs do.

Collections — Collecting is as easy as finding a group of your favorite rocks or putting together a group of pencils. Learn more about collecting and why people collect things.

Crafts - Be creative and make a cool craft.

Cupcake Decorating - Have fun decorating cupcakes! Learn how to make your own sweet treats!

Dairy - Care for and exhibit dairy in a controlled environment. (Hands-on)

Dinosaurs - Learn about fossils, different kinds of dinosaurs, where dinosaurs lived, and how they may have become extinct

Dog Obedience - Exhibit dogs in a controlled environment. (Hands-on)

Farm Animals - Explore the world of farm animals, from the little ones, like rabbits and chickens, to the big ones, like sheep and cows. (Not hands-on)

Foods - Learn about measuring, nutrition, making easy recipes, and kitchen safety.

Forestry - Trees are all around us. Learn about trees, the wood they make, and the animals that live in them.

Gardening - Plant seeds or small plants in a garden or in a pot, inside or outside, and watch them grow and make vegetables or flowers.

Goats - Care for and exhibit goats in a controlled environment. (Hands-on)

Horse & Pony - Care for and ride horses in a controlled environment. (Hands-on)

My Pet & Me - Caring for animals can be fun! Do activities to get to know your pet.

Models - Building models is a great way to learn new things! Learn about models and different ways of making models.

Plants & Flowers - Learn about plants and their special needs. Do great experiments with plants. You also will learn about different kinds of flowers.

Poultry - Care for and exhibit birds in a controlled environment. (Hands-on)

Rabbits - Care for and exhibit rabbits in a controlled environment. (Hands-on)

Reading - Learn about the parts of a book, how to make the most of your reading, and types and care of books. Read and report on favorite and new books.

Sewing - Learn the basic skills needed for sewing. Begin putting together the equipment needed for easy home sewing and repair work. A sewing machine is not needed for this project.

Sheep - Care for and exhibit sheep in a controlled environment. (Hands-on)

Sun, Stars, & Space - Learn more about the planets in our solar system, the sun, constellations, and exploring space.

Swine - Care for and exhibit swine in a controlled environment. (Hands-on)

Whales & Dolphins - Learn about popular types of whales and dolphins, the parts of the whale, whale songs, and the learning dolphin.

Wildlife Adventure - The world of wildlife is all around you! Learn about wild animals and birds that live nearby.
