Microwave Cooking

Manual required.

This project is no longer state supported; therefore, manuals are no longer being printed. As long as we have required project manuals available, we will continue to offer the project.

** Fair Entry – You MUST register your 4-H project in Fair Entry if you plan to exhibit at the 4-H Fair. See page 21! **

Exhibit introduction The Microwave Magic Project contains exciting youth activities that focus on using the microwave to prepare everything from simple snacks to complete meals. The materials are designed for students in Grades 3-12. Each learner guide has activities focused on the following: Techniques and Utensils, Nutrition, Food Preparation, and Meal Preparation.

Bring your project manual, recipe card, and your completed record sheet to judging.

General information:

  • Each year you should complete a minimum of 3 activities in the manual, each from a different “bite” category. Your manual (with these activities noted on the Achievement Sheet page) and a completed record sheet are necessary for project completion.
  • A recipe card or index card (no larger than 5 1/2”x 8 1/2”) is required for all foods. Be sure that the recipe includes how the microwave has been used in preparing the exhibit; include stirring, rotations, standing time, and covers. Place your name, grade just completed, and club on the recipe for the product.

For food competitions: see Purdue Extension Food Safety Policy in the Foods project.
