Only those in the Honor Group are eligible for State Fair Entry. Each county can send six (6) participants to the State 4-H Fashion Review (max. two (2) per category). On the county level, if there are no entries in a category, counties may send a second participant to the State Fair Fashion Revue from another category. 4-H Members who are eligible for State Fair will receive packet of information during exhibit release.
** Fair Entry – You MUST register your 4-H project in Fair Entry if you plan to exhibit at the 4-H Fair. See page 21! **
Exhibit Introduction
Fashion Revue is a worthwhile experience in which 4-H Wearable Sewing, Consumer Clothing and Non-Wearable members may participate. Fashion Revue is a judging of how the 4-H Wearable Sewing project, Consumer Clothing project and/or the Non-Wearable project appears on the 4-Her and the way one models. Construction and completion of the projects are NOT judged at this time. Only Senior Fashion Revue participants are eligible for State Fashion Revue. State entrants must be judged in wearable sewing to qualify for competition in the State Fair Fashion Revue.
OBJECTIVES
To encourage 4-H youth to develop:
*Self-confidence and poise.
*Understanding all "self" in order that the individual may select and make clothing that is becoming to the individual and expressive of the personality.
*Ability to select suitable and becoming accessories.
*Good posture and good grooming habits.
*The ability to choose from current fashion that which is suitable to the lifestyle and figure characteristics of the individual.
*Skills necessary to plan, select and construct clothing, using available resources.
**Project members will receive additional information in June regarding registration and judging times.**
NOTE: 4-H members in Level D may enter up to 2 sewing projects in different categories. A member can win in only 1 category. Judges will make the final decision.
DEFINITION OF AN OUTFIT: An outfit is a garment or garments that when put together make a complete look — such as 1- or 2-piece dress; or 1- or 2-piece pant suit; or a 3-piece combination, such as pants, vest, and blouse or shirt.
Informal or Casual Wear: A complete outfit of 1 or 2 pieces suitable for school, weekend, casual, or informal activities.
Dress-Up: This is suitable for special, church, or social occasions that are not considered to be formal. It may be an outfit of 1 or more pieces with or without its own costume coat or jacket (lined or unlined). This is not an outfit that would be worn to school, weekend, or casual, informal activities.
Suit or Coat: The suit consists of 2 pieces including a skirt or pants and its own lined jacket. It is not a dress with jacket as in “Dress-Up Wear”. The coat is a separate lined coat. It will be judged separately as a coat with its own accessories.
Separates: Consists of 3 garments that must be able to be worn as a coordinated, complete outfit. Each piece should be versatile enough to be worn with other garments in your wardrobe.
Formal Wear: This outfit may be 1 or more pieces suitable for any formal occasion, such as proms, weddings, and formal evening functions.
Free Choice: A complete outfit composed of garments that do not fit in the other classifications. The items are to make a complete outfit. Examples include: tennis wear, swimwear or athletic sportswear; lounge wear, riding habits; historic, dance, theatrical, or international costumes; capes, and unlined coats.
State Fair Fashion Revue Requirements, Entries, and Eligibility
- Grades 8-12 of the current academic year or up to age 19. The overall category winners of the State 4-H Fashion Revue must meet the guidelines for the National 4-H Congress event and the State Fair Achievement Trip in order to participate in those events. National 4-H Congress guidelines require that a participant must be age 15-19 on January 1 of current year. State Fair Achievement trip guidelines require that a participant must be age 14-19 by January 1 of current year.
- Garments modeled must have been made by participants since the last county 4-H exhibit.
- An outfit is a garment or garments that when put together make a complete look – such as 1 or 2-piece dress, or 1 or 2-piece pant suit, or a 3-piece combination, such as pants, vest, and blouse or shirt.
- Handcrafted garments made in the 4-H Crafts projects may be modeled in 4-H Fashion Revue whenever the finished garment(s) meets the requirements of a Fashion Revue classification.
- An entrant may enter only one State 4-H Fashion Revue Classification.
- Outfits to be worn in the State 4-H Fashion Revue cannot be exhibited in any other 4-H exhibit section.
