Become a Decatur County 4-H Adult Volunteer

Decatur County 4-H Adult Volunteers provide leadership and guidance to youth involved in the Decatur County 4-H program.

The application and screening process to become an adult Leader/Volunteer involves a number of steps.  Applicants are not accepted into the program until the entire procedure has been completed.

To begin the application process, please review the volunteer position description included in the application packet.  This position description is a general description of a club leader and gives a basic outline.

After viewing the responsibilities and qualifications, the next step is to complete the volunteer application package and return to the Extension Office.  Please make sure to provide complete contact information for your references.

Once our office receives our application package, we will complete a background check and contact our references.  Please make sure to provide complete contact information for your references including e-mail if possible.  Please note that the application process length varies from individual to individual.  This depends largely on how fast your references return their responses and how busy the Extension Office is at the at time of year.  (Volunteer applications turned in the month of July will likely not be processed until August due to the high volume of work related to the Decatur County Fair.)

Potential volunteers will meet with the 4-H Youth Development Extension Educator to discuss program responsibilities and open opportunities that interest you.  Meeting with the 4-H Youth Development Extension Educator will allow you to become familiar with the responsibilities and expectations of positions while reviewing policy and procedure followed by Decatur County.

While volunteers are always welcome to help with Decatur County 4-H, please understand that we cannot always place you in the position of your first choice.  Please don't be discouraged, as we are almost always able to find a place that you will feel that your talents can be used to their fullest while providing our youth with a safe and healthy environment to learn and grow.
