The Master Gardener Program helps gardeners grow by providing them with intensive training in horticultural principles. Participants, in turn, share their knowledge by providing volunteer leadership and service to their communities. It is the training that Master Gardener volunteers receive that makes Master Gardener volunteers special!
Master Gardener volunteers serve Allen County in various ways including: answering gardening questions in the Master Gardener Hotline, delivering garden seminars, assisting teachers with school gardening programs, teaching children about gardening, attending tours and workshops, and working with others to maintain the Display Gardens at the Extension office.
Master Gardener Volunteers receive training in the areas of plant science, plant nutrition/soils, insects, and plant disease/weeds. In addition, they will receive training in several other areas including vegetable gardening, herbs and roses, annual and perennial flowers, woody landscape plants, house plants/lawn care, water gardening, growing fruit, indoor plants, pests of the home, and plant propagation.
