On April 8, 2024 much of Indiana will experience a total solar eclipse with the path of totality covering much of southern and central Indiana. This monumental event is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Hoosier state. Purdue Extension Community Development seeks to support Indiana communities by connecting them with resources to plan for a safe and successful solar eclipse experience for all.

We know communities thrive when local leaders and community members have the knowledge, skills, and engagement needed to respond to existing opportunities like the eclipse. With this in mind the Purdue Extension Community Development website now contains a growing list of local, state and national resources available to support eclipse planning efforts. Across the state our educators are also be available to support communities, individuals, organizations, businesses and local governments interested in or already engaging in planning efforts.

We invite you to explore the resources available on our website and to contact us if you become aware of or have additional resources to share. Examples of what is available are links to general eclipse information from state partners like the Department of Natural Resources. When funding is a need, non-profit organizations and local governments can find information on the Beginner’s Guide to Grant Writing program, including dates and locations for upcoming workshops. There are also K-12 resources like the Purdue University Superheroes of Science Solar Eclipse Video Playlist.

The Purdue Extension Community Development Total Solar Eclipse Resource Hub is available here. Please contact Cindy Barber, Community Development Educator, cabarber@purdue.edu, if you have questions, or additional resources to share.
