Connecting with Amish and Other Plain Communities

Do you often work with Amish and other plain communities? Purdue Extension, Penn State Extension and Elizabethtown College are presenting “Working with Amish and Other Plain Communities” for Extension and related agency professionals on March 29 – 31, 2022 in Shipshewana, Indiana, home to one of the top three largest Amish and Plain Communities in the United States. 

Topics covered in the conference include:

  • Overview of Amish, Mennonite and other plain groups
    across America
  • Relations with the state and the wider English world
  • Amish community organization, work and social change


Learn directly from a panel of Amish leaders about the industry, family life and agriculture in a question and answer session. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view Amish life firsthand on tours including furniture manufacturing, agriculture and family life.


To conclude the conference, three local Amish leaders will share their valuable perspectives and summarize the conference’s key messages.

Registration Information:

Early bird registration $250.00 is due by February 28, 2022.

Registration will increase to $300 on March 1, 2022.  The deadline for registration is March 15, 2022.
