This is your online resource for the 4-H Poultry project. The record sheet is attached below. If you have any questions, please refer to the 4-H Handbook or contact the Extension Office.

Here are the requirements for this project:

POULTRY

All poultry brought to the fairgrounds must meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Test negative for pullorum-typhoid within 90 days of the date of their exhibition. Birds can be tested at the fair.
  2. Be hatched from eggs originating from certified NPIP pullorum-typhoid clean flocks.
  3. Originate from a flock where the entire flick is certified NPIP pullorum-typhoid clean.

 

  1. Entry consists of one animal.
  2. 4-H’er must exhibit a chicken in order to enter an egg exhibit.
  3. 4-H’ers are required to leave a minimum of one animal for exhibition the week of the fair. Other birds may be taken home after the show.
  4. 4-H member must show bird.
  5. Exhibitors must be present during judging.
  6. Clean own cage (and under cage) before, during and after the fair.
  7. Provide own bedding, feed, water, fan for animals and a lock for each cage.

Classes

  1. American Large Fowl
  2. Asiatic Large Fowl
  3. Continental Large Fowl
  4. English Large Fowl
  5. Mediterranean Large Fowl
  6. All Other Large Fowl
  7. Game Bantams
  8. Clean Legged Bantams
  9. Feather Legged Bantams
  10. Waterfowl (ducks and geese)
  11. Turkeys
  12. Egg - must also show a chicken to exhibit in this class
  13. Showmanship

Poster Exhibit Requirements: - Posters are due the Wednesday before the Fair.

All posters, notebooks, and display boards must include a reference list indicating where information was obtained, giving credit to the original author, to complete the 4-H member’s exhibit. This reference list should/might include web site links, people and professionals interviewed, books, magazines, etc. It is recommended this reference list be attached to the back of a poster or display board, be the last page of a notebook, or included as part of the display visible to the public. A judge is not to discredit an exhibit for the manner in which references are listed.

 

Level 1 (Grades 3-5)

  1. Complete a minimum of 4 activities per year in the Level 1 Poultry manual. Turn in your manual and your green folder with record sheet on Wednesday prior to the Fair.
  2. Exhibits (do a minimum of one)
  3. Exhibit your animal(s) at the Jackson County Fair.
  4. An educational poster (following poster guidelines) that shows something the 4-H’er learned from a completed activity in the Level 1 manual.
  5. Action Demo at the Fair. (Sign up at the Extension Office by Wednesday before the Fair.)

Level 2 (Grades 6-8)

  1. Complete a minimum of 4 activities per year in the Level 2 Poultry manual. Turn in your manual and your green folder with record sheet on Wednesday prior to the Fair.
  2. Exhibits (do a minimum of one)
  3. Exhibit your animal(s) at the Jackson County Fair.
  4. An educational poster (following poster guidelines) that shows something the 4-H’er learned from a completed activity in the Level 2 manual.
  5. Action Demo at the Fair. (Sign up at the Extension Office by Wednesday before the Fair.)

Level 3 (Grades 9-12)

  1. Complete a minimum of 4 activities per year in the Level 3 Poultry manual. Turn in your manual and your green folder with record sheet on Wednesday prior to the Fair.
