The Field Crops Focus Group works to enhance Indiana Stakeholders’ understanding of crop production issues; and to support decision-making by farmers in the production, harvest, and storage of agronomic crops, including corn, soybeans, wheat, hay/forage, and other field crops. Specialists and educators throughout the Purdue Community contribute to this goal including: faculty from the Departments of Purdue Agronomy, Botany & Plant Pathology, Entomology, and Agricultural Economics, as well as county educators and Purdue Agriculture Centers (PACs). Members come together to host a variety of educational workshops and PAC Field Days for producers/farmers, commercial and industry personnel, and governmental agencies, as well as programs that offer credit for private pesticide applicators, commercial applicators, and certified crop advisors throughout the state. Additionally, the Field Crops Focus Group is involved with applied research both on-farm and at PACs. Topics for these programs and research include: integrated pest management, soil health, water management, grain storage, nutrient management, precision agriculture, and much more.

Current signature programs include:
Integrated Pest Management, which trains stakeholders on the decision making process necessary to manage and reduce risks from agronomic pests and provides tools and strategies to minimize economic, health and environmental risks.

UAV Technology, which teaches commercial UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and hobbyist pilots the essential skills to safely and legally fly UAVs including: Remote Pilot Part 107 test preparation, flight instructions, camera settings, flight plans and record keeping, data management, applications of the technology and more.
