Oct. 5 Forestry Tour to Highlight Forest Management
Whitley County is home to the Purdue Harrold Woodland. It is located just west of Etna in northwest Whitley County. Forestry professionals will conduct a forestry tour on the Purdue woodland on Oct. 5 to highlight management practices beneficial to maturing forest plantations.
Activities will include a walking tour of several 30+-year-old forest plantations. Topics to be discussed include crop tree selection and release; cull tree deadening; stocking levels; pruning decisions: when, why, and how; evaluating the original tree planting plan and its implementation after 30+ years; and USDA funding options. Industry professionals will be on hand for questions.
Lunch is included in the $15 registration cost. Register by Sept. 30 at https://WhitleyForestryTour100524.eventbrite.com.
This event is hosted and sponsored by the Purdue Forestry & Natural Resources Department, Purdue Extension, Indiana DNR Division of Forestry, Indiana Forestry & Woodland Owners Association, and Walnut Council, Indiana Chapter. Organizers plan to sponsor other forestry tours in northeast Indiana in the coming years.
