On Thursday, August 2, 2018, Purdue Extension Organic Agriculture, in collaboration with Jasper County SWCD and IDEA Farm Network, will host a field day at Living Prairie Family Farms in Wolcott, Indiana. Jason Federer, owner of Living Prairie Family Farms, operates a split operation, managing both conventional and certified organic grain production.
At this field day, you will have the opportunity to see organic corn and soybean crops, alongside conventional and transitional crops. Topics to be covered include organic row crop tillage and cultivation equipment, transition strategies and crop rotations, managing split operations, and interseeding cover crops into corn. Morning rotations will include equipment, organic crop fields, and interseeded cover crop plots. The afternoon, following a catered lunch, serves as an open networking time to continue discussions with farmers, equipment dealers, and others, and to look at equipment and crops in more detail.
