COLLECTIONS-County Only Project

A completed record sheet signed by your 4-H leader must be presented, along with your exhibit, at project check-in at the fair.   There is no manual used for this project.  Complete your project according to the exhibit guidelines provided.

This project is divided into three levels according to the following breakdown:     

 

Level 1                        Grades 3, 4, & 5

Level 2                        Grades 6, 7, & 8

Level 3                        Grades 9 and above

GUIDELINES:

  • Members may show only one collection each year.
  • No portion of the collection may be alive.
  • The collection must be added to each year in order to show growth in the project. Clearly label or otherwise identify collected items that were added during the current project year.
  • Members may choose to start a new collection at any time. Previous years’ work should still remain in the book, however.
  • Attach a description label to each item.
  • Total exhibit size will be no larger than 24” in any direction.
  • All exhibits must be placed within a display case or covered with heavy plastic.

You may choose any type of article you desire. Listed below are some suggestions – but your choice is not limited to these:

Pitchers

Salt Shakers

Match Books

Glass 

Buttons

Rocks 

Stamps 

Coins 

Spoons 

Arrow Heads

Antiques

Dishes

Bottles

Dolls

Bottle Caps

 

Level 1

  1. Select a representative sample of your collection (5-10 items) and exhibit it attractively in a box (not to exceed 18” x 24”) OR a poster (22” x 24” with hard backing) OR display (not to exceed 24” x 24” x 24” with hard backing) OR a notebook. Each year (from Fair to Fair) add at least 3 different items. AFTER YOUR FIRST YEAR DO NOT BRING YOUR ORIGINAL COLLECTION. ONLY BRING YOUR 3 NEW ITEMS.
  2. Be sure to attach labels to items you display explaining them to the people who see your collection.
  3. Your exhibit MUST have an inventory of your entire collection (in booklet form) included with the display, and a label on both, containing name, division, township and 4-H Club.

Level 2

  1. Take photos of your entire collection (items may be grouped attractively, or each piece may be pictured separately), and place them in a 3-ring binder for display. DO NOT BRING YOUR ORIGINAL COLLECTION TO THE FAIR FOR JUDGING/DISPLAY. ONLY BRING YOUR 3 NEW ITEMS. Each year (from Fair to Fair) add at least 3 different items to your collection.
  2. Label each picture with the names or descriptions of each item pictured.
  3. Your exhibit MUST have an inventory of your entire collection (in booklet form) included with the display, and a label containing name, division and 4-H Club

Level 3

  1. Take photos of your entire collection (items may be grouped attractively, or each piece may be pictured separately), and place them in a 3-ring binder for display. DO NOT BRING YOUR ORIGINAL COLLECTION TO THE FAIR FOR JUDGING/DISPLAY. ONLY BRING YOUR 3 NEW ITEMS. Each year (from Fair to Fair) add at least 3 different items to your collection.

It is recommended that valuable objects be protected by exhibiting them in a securely covered display case, securely fastened to a display board, or taken home after judging. The Extension Office, the 4-H Council, or the Fair Board can, in no manner, take responsibility for any damage, loss or theft of a collector’s exhibit.
