Despite the current COVID-19 situation, the Purdue Master Gardener Program will be holding a Fall, 2020 Intern Training. But things will look a little different than in the past.
First, classes will be held virtually - LIVE! - on the internet. Second, this is a statewide event, so participants will see and hear from some of the finest Indiana speakers. Third, there will also be a local component, called a County Connection, where Boone County participants will meet as a group and discuss the week’s topic and apply it to what we see locally. For instance, after the Invasive Species class we can focus on common local problems like Garlic Mustard, Bush Honeysuckle and Canada Thistle. All socially distanced and safe.
The statewide training will be held virtually Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. These will begin on Tuesday, August 25 and run through Tuesday, December 2. There will be no session on November 24.
Boone County Connection
The County Connection for Boone County participants will be on Wednesday evenings from 5:30-6:30 p.m. These will begin on August 26 and end on December 2. There will be no County Connection November 25 and one will be held Thursday, November 12 rather than November 11 due to Veterans' Day. You do not need to live in Boone County to register as a Boone County participant. Most County Connections will be held virtually however a few may be in-person.
There is a two-part registration procedure. First, participants must pass the Purdue University volunteer screening process. Fill out Form EMG -1, "Purdue Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Application and Agreement." Bring the completed form, along with photo ID, to the Extension Office. Once you have passed the volunteer screening you will be sent a link to the online registration site.
The cost for the program is $175. Two individuals from the same household who wish to share materials may register for $270.
The registration deadline is August 14. Keep in mind this is the online registration deadline. Do not bring an agreement and application form to the Extension Office on August 14 and expect to have the volunteer screening completed in time to register. I suggest having this in the office by Friday, August 7.
The address to bring forms to is: Purdue Extension - Boone County, 1300 E 100 S, Lebanon, IN 46052.
