Purdue Extension's Co-Parenting for Successful Kids is a research-based education class designed to help separating and divorcing families cope with divorce and custody.
The class is offered on-site at locations throughout Indiana, and online, too.
Parents learn to answer the children's questions to keep their children safe and out of adult conflicts. Co-Parenting for Successful Kids strengthens communication skills that can improve interactions with children and the other parent. The goal of the class is to help parents become more respectful, responsive, and responsible.
- How children are affected by divorce, and stages of grief
- Issues of developmental ages and stages
- What affects a child's adjustment
- Parenting styles
- Who wants to play this game?
- The parenting plan
- Manage your stress
"I learned to listen, be patient, to communicate, keep lines of communication open, and to talk positively about my spouse."
"Keeping the child out of the middle of the conflict and working with the other parent to come up with the parenting plan that works for both of us."
"The information was very helpful in reaffirming that as a parent we must work together to do what is in the best interest of our daughter to provide her with support , encouragement, and stability."
"The mix of journal entries, quizzes, and videos made the information 'sink in' better than just quizzes alone would have."
On-site classes are available throughout Indiana.
Classes include educational presentations, videos and handouts. Parents gain positive educational experiences by being in a classroom with others in similar transitions. Parents say they appreciate learning about strategies that have worked for their classmates.
Cost is $50. It is recommended that parents of the same child/children take different classes.
