2019 LIVESTOCK ARRIVAL/STALLING/RELEASE PROCEDURES
- HEALTH REQUIREMENTS -- Clark County follows state health requirements for livestock and animal projects.
- Livestock Exhibitors who want to put up tents in the fenced area will have to see their respective barn Committee for allotted space.
- No fair official will enter livestock trailers to assist with unloading of animals at the time of fair check-in. This responsibility is for the 4-H member and/or family member.
- A vet will not be made available at check-in. Barn committee chairman and members will be in charge of health checks for animals. Any animal turned away for health issues has the right to be examined by a veterinarian at the owner’s own expense. The exhibitor will have until 3pm on July 13th to return to the fair with a signed veterinarian note stating the animal is in good health to show at the county fair.
- There is no stall/cage/pen fee for 4-H entries. Request may be made for equipment stall when available and approved by the respective barn chairperson.
- Each 4-H Exhibitor must furnish his/her animal with shavings, water container, feed container, and feed. 4-H'er is responsible for feeding and care of animal unless other arrangements are made with 4-H Barn Chairperson. The Beef barn will provide wood mulch.
- Fans must have proper safety-approved shrouds. No free standing fans will be allowed in any barn.
- No power washers will be allowed.
- Each 4-H Exhibitor must furnish his/her own clean-up equipment, such as broom, shovel/scoop, etc. The Clark County 4-H Junior Leaders have provided two wheel barrows for each barn. Clean-up is to be done daily. Waste must be placed in the manure spreaders that are provided.
- All stalls/cages/pens must be kept clean and well-bedded at all times. The respective barn committee will designate location for 4-H member to dispose of manure, straw, and other animal waste.
- All 4-H stalls/cages/pens and areas under and nearby must be cleaned upon leaving.
- No dogs will be allowed in the Rabbit and Poultry Barn at any time.
- Livestock trailers shall be parked in the designated area. Violators will be towed at owner’s expense.
- At the discretion of the barn chairman, youth will be allowed to enter tack into the barn Friday, July 12th after 5pm.
- All animals must be contained within the livestock fenced area and barns at all times during the 4-H Fair.
Arrival Schedule
- No animals will be allowed in the barns prior to 7:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 13th.
- All Livestock (including Horse & Pony) will be entered from 7:00 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, July 13th.
- Rabbits and Poultry are to be entered from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday July 13th.
- Respective barn committees will be given discretion regarding arrival, penning/stalling of animals.
Weigh-In Schedule
- Weigh-in for beef, dairy, swine, goats, and sheep will be on Saturday, July 13th 7am-Noon.
- Weigh-In for Rabbits & Poultry will be on Saturday, July 13th during check-in.
- The 4-H’er or his/her representative must be present when animals are weighed.
- All weights are final.
- The livestock scales are only to be used for official weights. The scales are NOT to be tampered with at any time.
- The scales are not test scales.
- Weigh Off the trailer for all species, barn committee members will not be allowed to weigh their own animals or other committee member’s animals. Other barn committees will weigh other species and initial weight cards since committee member weigh-in begins at 6am.
Release Schedule
- All non-auction hogs will be released on Wednesday, July 17th from 7:00a.m. – 10:00a.m.
- An out truck will be provided if there is enough interest.
- No hogs will be released Tuesday evening after the show!!
- Only auction hogs and poultry may remain after Wednesday, July 17th 10:00a.m.
- All other 4-H animals will be released from 6:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Friday July 19th.
- There will be no early dismissal for any reason unless warranted by the respective barn committee. This will be enforced by the respective barn committees and fairgrounds security.
Barn Closing/ Overnight Policy
- The livestock barns will be closed from 12:00 midnight.-5:00 a.m.
- Parents wanting to stay in the barns to watch animals should sign up by the day prior. If your son or daughter is staying with you, then you must indicate so on the form.
- Absolutely no 4-H member is allowed to stay without their parent or legal guardian.
NOTE: Effective January 1998, Purdue University no longer provides liability coverage to 4-H leaders and staff during overnight stays at Fairs unless the 4-H Youth participant(s) are accompanied by his/her parent or legal guardian at all times.
