RT2 is designed to promote literacy, nutrition and agriculture to pre-K through first grade students. Every day of the fair a different book featuring nutrition, animal (agriculture), craft and snack will be presented. This is a free educational program that takes place the week of the county fair.
RT2 Book Club
Research shows a strong relationship between parent/pre-schooler reading and language and literacy achievement. With this in mind, the Hendricks County Health & Human Sciences educator has developed a "book club" for pre-school age through first grade children and their parents with a nutrition and agriculture connection.
Each child signed up for the RT2 Book Club will receive a monthly newsletter featuring a new book, which should be available from your local library, along with activities related to the story.
Book Club members can then attend RT2 Celebration Week during the Hendricks County 4-H Fair in July. They will be read a book featuring agriculture and nutrition, create a craft, and sample a snack related to the story. They can then visit the day's featured animal on the fairgrounds.
You can sign up for our book club by calling the Hendricks County Extension Office at 317-745-9260.
