The Master Gardener Display Gardens of Allen County are a collection of 22 distinct educational gardens surrounding the Purdue Extension - Allen County building (Located on the PFW campus). The mission of the Display Gardens is to educate the public about gardening, horticulture, and the environment. Each garden has been created with this mission in mind and provides living examples of plants and trees suited to our area’s unique growing conditions.
The Display Gardens began in 1989 with simple vegetable and flower beds, and have spread and expanded to their current glory. The design, planting, maintenance, and management are a labor of love provided solely by a large pool of devoted Master Gardener volunteers with the purpose of sharing gardening knowledge with the community. There are 20 garden areas that include: rock, cottage, patio, vegetable, and many more! But the gardens are continually changing and new in 2018 the gardens are seeing additions of a Little Free Library and a Little Free Garden!
You will find The Display Gardens are open to the public, dawn to dusk, year round and admission is FREE. There are paths winding within and among the gardens and seating is available to allow visitors to get lost in conversation with a dear friend or immerse in the beauty of the gardens.
As you wander through the gardens and find yourself pining over a particular plant, don’t fret! Our specimens are labeled with the common and scientific name so you can easily request the beautiful botanical at your local garden center or nursery. If you are lucky enough, you may even stumble upon a Master Gardener or two in their natural habitat. Please feel free to approach them, as they are normally more than happy to entertain any and all questions you may have about the gardens.
We welcome requests for tours and can accommodate groups, large and small, wanting to learn more about our hidden treasure. Please contact our office at (260) 481-6826 to schedule your tour with the Horticulture Extension Educator or our amazing Master Gardener volunteers.
