Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) Resources

February 4, 2020

Montgomery County 4-H will be offering trainings for the Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) program. In order to exhibit beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, swine, meat goats, dairy goats, rabbits, and poultry, 4-H members MUST be certified through the Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA). Several of the national shows are utilizing this program. If you show multiple of these animals, you will just attend 1 training, not 1 training for each animal you exhibit. The goals of requiring YQCA in Indiana 4-H are to:

This is an annual program that can be completed via online modules or in-person trainings. The following dates below are in-person trainings that are being offered for youth:

You must be pre-registered to participate in the class. Pre-registration ensures that you have successfully attended the class. If none of these dates work for your schedule, you may complete the online modules OR attend an in-person training in another county. If interested in learning date options for in-person trainings in other counties, please contact Abby at the Extension office at (765)364-6363 or asweet@purdue.edu. As stated previously, youth will be required to be certified in YQCA before they can exhibit at the fair.

At the bottom of the page under the "Related Files" section, you will find a “step-by-step” guide on how to register for an in-person training. Visit yqca.learngrow.io to get registered today! In-person trainings cost $3.00 and must be paid online. For in-person trainings, you must select the $3.00 option and pay via coupon code or credit card. The only way to pay for this training is by credit card online.  If you e-mail Abby Morgan at asweet@purdue.edu, she can give you a coupon code so that it is FREE for you, thanks to a generous sponsorship by Tipmont REMC! This coupon is just for the in-person trainings. If you are interested in doing an online training, those cost $12.00.

YQCA does offer an online ONLY test-out option. For more information and to see if you are eligible for the test-out option, please click the "YQCA Online Test-Out Guide" under the Related Files section at the bottom of the page. There is also a "Frequently Asked YQCA Questions" document that may help clarify any questions you may have. If you have further questions, please contact the Montgomery County Extension office at (765)364-6363 or e-mail asweet@purdue.edu.
