Captain Cash Says…Reading Makes Cents - The Purdue Extension Johnson County Educator staff offers the Captain Cash Says…Reading Makes Cents to our local public and private schools targeting the third grade students. Captain Cash is designed to guide students as they learn about real-life money management. It consist of four 45 to 60 minutes personal finance lessons that meet the Indiana Academic Standards for math and social studies. The four personal finance lessons include: Earning, students will learn where and how we get money; Saving, students will learn where and how to save money; Spending, students will understand the importance of planning and tracking their spending; and Borrowing, students will learn that borrowing money is like borrowing a book from the library.
