Weather and Climate Science

Youth will learn basic information about weather, including what causes variations in weather and why we have different seasons and climates on the earth. In this project you will observe and record weather conditions and learn weather symbols.

For Judging and Check-in information, consult the current 4-H Catalog.

Project Requirements:
1. Complete 2 experiments in the project manual each year. Completed manual and record sheet must be turned
in by the established and posted date.
2. Create an exhibit that shows the public what you learned in the weather and climate project this year.
3. Choose one of the options listed below, appropriate for your grade in school. Use an appropriate exhibit title.
4. Premiums and Grand Champions will be determined by the method stated in the Adams County 4-H Governing
Rules under the General Project Rules section.

Exhibit Requirements:
Level 1-Grades 3-5
1. Choose one of the following:
a. A poster related to an activity from the level 1 manual.
b.A poster and/or notebook of a weather or climate related science experiment appropriate for grades 3-5.

Level 2-Grades 6-8
1. Choose one of the following:
a. A poster related to an activity from the level 2 manual.
b. A poster and/or notebook of a weather or climate related science experiment appropriate for grades 6-8.

Level 3-Grades 9-12
1. Choose one of the following:
a. A poster related to an activity from the level 3 manual.
b. A poster and/or notebook of a weather or climate related science experiment appropriate for grades 9-12.

Independent Study -
Learn all you can about a weather and/or climate topic, program, facility, project, etc. and present it on a
poster or in a notebook. Include a short manuscript, pictures, graphs, and list the works cited to describe
what you did and what you learned. Title your poster or notebook, "Advanced Weather and
Climate Science - Independent Study".

Mentoring -
Exhibit a poster or notebook that shows how you mentored a younger 4-H member. Include your planning,
the time you spent, the challenges and advantages of mentoring, and how the experience might be useful in
your life. Photographs and other documentation are encouraged. Title your poster, "Advanced Weather
and Climate Science - Mentor."
