Dining with Diabetes

Dining with Diabetes Class Series

Do you want to know how to cook healthier AND have it taste good?  Come join us for four sessions at the Warren County Learning Center to learn more about how to cook at home with diabetes.  Dining with Diabetes classes will be offered by Purdue Extension Warren and Fountain County on Monday's September 14, 21, 28, October 5 from 5:30-7:30 pm.  This class is open to those with diabetes, their family members, caretakers or anyone interested in learning more about good eating habits.

Participants will learn how to prepare simple, healthy meals that are tasty.  Several recipes will be demonstrated at each session and participants will have the opportunity to taste each dish.  Learning up-to-date information from a registered dietician on nutrition, meal planning, exercise and how to understand common diabetes related medical tests will be included in the sessions.  Recipes and handouts will be given to each participant.

Cost is $25 for one or $40 for couples for the four session series. A small meal will be served during the class.

Diabetes is a very serious and costly disease.  Research has shown that those who learn to manage their blood glucose (sugar) levels, eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly can lower their risks of complications and lead a healthier and more productive life.  Locally Warren County has 22.5% of our adult population diagnosed with diabetes; which is one in five adults, 25 and older, while the Fountain County figure is at 9.9%.  The health care cost of this disease is tremendous for individuals.
