ANIMAL OWNERSHIP FORMS FOR DAIRY, MEAT GOATS & PYGMY GOATS MUST BE DONE ONLINE BY MAY 15.

Meat Goat ID Date: May 9, 2020, 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at the fairgrounds.
4-H member must pre-enter for all classes. See ENTRY RULES below in regards to Goat Kids.

4-H GOAT ENTRY RULES
1. 4-H ONLINE --
Animals must be owned by or leased (county exhibition only)and in possession of the 4-H member by May 15 of current year and identified by a tattoo or tag. Lease papers are due in the Shelby County Extension Office by May 15. 4-H members who expect to exhibit Goat Kids which will be born after May 15 must register the dam with the Shelby County Extension Office by May 15. This pertains to ALL 4-H Goat County and State Fair Exhibitors. Meat Goat Wethers and Meat Goat unregistered does must be retinal scanned at ID Day. Unregistered Meat Goat Does are only eligible to be shown at the County show. All 4-H Goat Exhibitors (except Utility Goats) must complete and submit State Goat Ownership online by May 15.

2. SHELBY COUNTY FAIR ENTRY FORM --
All County 4-H Goat Exhibitors must enter your Goats in their classes in the Fair Entry online program by May 31. There will no NO entries accepted after May 31.   All county 4-H Exhibitors must also complete a Shelby County Pen Reservation Form, and return to the Shelby County Extension Office. Forms are due May 15.  There will be NO entries accepted after May 15th

3. STATE FAIR ENTRIES – Pre-entry is required by July 1 for Dairy Goat, Pygmy Goats and Boer (Meat) Goats.

4-H GOAT HEALTH/SAFETY REGULATIONS
Refer to 4-H General Livestock/Animal rules. Also:
1. Each goat must have a collar and tie chain available. Pinch collars will be allowed for meat goats only.
2. Dairy goats with horns are not permitted. This County Fair Policy is for the protection and safety of other animals, Exhibitors and fair visitors. Buttons and scurs of 1” or less will be permitted. Decisions of the Goat Superintendents and/or Livestock Superintendent are final.
3. Pygmy goats may be shown with or without horns.
4. Any Goat Wether showing evidence of testicular tissue is ineligible to be shown in the 4-H Goat show.


4-H GOAT CLASS INFORMATION
1. Any animal being shown as a 4-H purebred breeding animal in Dairy Goats must have registration papers available for inspection by the 4-H Superintendent(s) before the show; Pen Entry Blanks must carry Registration Numbers.
2. Definition of a purebred Dairy Goat: an animal sired by a registered sire and from a registered dam of the same breed; all others are grade.
3. There will be a 4-H class offered for all recognized breeds of dairy goats, regardless of how many animals are entered and exhibited.
4. A maximum of two (2) breeds in Dairy may be shown by an Exhibitor.
5. An Exhibitor is limited to a maximum of two (2) entries per class and a total of twelve (12) animals in Dairy Goat. An Exhibitor is limited to a maximum of two (2) entries per class and a total of twelve (12) animals in Pygmy Goat. An Exhibitor is limited to a maximum of two (2) entries per class and a total of twelve (12) animals in Meat Goat.
6. Age of animal shall be computed from actual date of judging.
7. There will be no Bucks allowed in the Goat show.
8. All goats competing for championship honors that are milked may be required by the judge to be milked before making final placings.
9. It is suggested that the Exhibitor wear long, dark slacks (no shorts) and a white shirt or an all white outfit to exhibit goats.

Senior Showmanship winners from Dairy, Pygmy, and Meat show will compete to represent Goats in the Shelby Royal.

4-H MEAT GOAT, MARKET MEAT CLASS SECTION:
All Wethers must have milk teeth to be shown in market meat class. (shown by weight) Clas-ses may be added at the Superintendent’s discretion. Retinal scans and five digit ear tags will be required for Boer goat wethers in 2013. Rate of gain participants need to retinal scan at the goat ID day.

4-H MEAT GOAT, (RATE OF GAIN) SECTION: All Wethers will be weighed at the official weigh- in/identification day in May, current year, then again at the official weigh-in at the County Fair. Weight per day of age will be calculated from these two weights. No premiums will be paid for this class. First (1st), second (2nd), and third (3rd) places will be awarded.

UTILITY GOAT 

*Conformation Fiber Class-to include any crossbreds or goat bred for its fiber with judging criteria to include 50% fiber and 50% on conformation.

 4-H FIBER GOAT CONFIRMATION

*Goats will be judged on their physical suitability as utility goats.  Judges will consider structural correctness, muscularity, attitude and cooperation on the goats.  Wethers and does of all breeds and all types of cross-breeds are eligible.

 Mini 4-H Goat AGILITY CLASS

*Open to all Mini 4-H members enrolled in the Mini 4-H Goat Project.  Mini 4-Hers will pair up with older 4-H members and complete the course together.  You MUST have a liability waiver on file before you can participate.  You cannot bring your own animal, an older 4-H member will mentor you with their enrolled animal.
