CROPS
Not a State Fair Project

Green Record Book Completion Requirement:
• Complete a Shelby County Record Sheet.

Exhibit Guidelines:
• Shelby County 4-H members may enroll in any and/or all Crops Projects, including Corn, Hay, Oats, Soybeans, and Wheat. A Champion will be awarded in each category and one Grand Champion for Grain and one Grand Champion for Plant.
• Crops projects will be judged in age categories: Clover, Junior, and Senior.

CORN - GRAIN
ALL Age Levels exhibit:
Corn grain displayed in a one (1) - quart (glass) container.
4-H members may enter both corn-grain and corn-stalk categories or you may follow one of the other suggested Fair Exhibits as outlined in your manual.

CORN - STALK
ALL Age Levels exhibit:
Five (5) stalks of corn. Corn stalk roots should be washed and show good root systems. Attach an index card (3" x 5"), listing planting date, variety, population (plants/foot, width of rows), type of soil, fertilizer, and pesticide/herbicide(s) used on one stalk. Another stalk must have the parts identified according to the manual.

HAY
ALL Age Levels exhibit:
Ten (10) lbs. (approximately three flakes), baled or loose, of one of the following (labeled):
Alfalfa, Clover, Timothy, Mixed Timothy, and Clover Mixed hay in general

OATS
ALL Age Levels exhibit:
Oat grain displayed in a one (1) - quart (glass) container.

SOYBEANS - GRAIN
ALL Age Levels exhibit:
Soybeans displayed in a one (1) - quart (glass) container.
4-H members may enter both Soybean Grain and Soybean Plant categories.

SOYBEANS - PLANT
ALL Age Levels exhibit:
Ten (10) stalks of soybeans. Bean stalk roots should be washed and should exhibit a good root system.

Attach an index card (3" x 5"), listing planting date, variety, population (plants/foot, width of rows), type of soil, fertilizer, and pesticide/herbicide(s) used. On one plant, attach identification labels for parts of a soybean plant.

WHEAT
ALL Age Levels exhibit:
Wheat grain displayed in a one (1) - quart (glass) container.
