If you love gardening and would like to share your passion with others, Purdue Extension – Porter County wants you!

We are accepting applications for the Summer 2019 Master Gardeners class, which will be held on Mondays from June 3 through July 15. The seven classes will be held 9 am – 4 pm CST at the Porter County Government Center on Indiana Avenue in Valparaiso, Room 102A. Anyone with a green thumb and a desire to help the community through gardening programs is invited to apply.

The classes will cover core topics to include weed control and identification; plant science; soils and plant nutrition; plant diseases, identification and management; woody ornamentals; herbaceous ornamentals; insect identification and management; pesticide safety; turfgrass management; vegetable and fruit gardening; animal damage.

Anyone may apply, and we welcome all serious gardeners. We want to emphasize that the Purdue Extension Master Gardeners are community volunteers who work to help others grow better gardens. Applicants will need to share why they want to become a Purdue Extension volunteer, and must give 35 volunteer hours in order to advance from Intern to Master Gardener.

Applications can be downloaded here, emailed, U.S. mailed or picked up at the Extension Office. Fill out and return the 4-page Application and Volunteer Agreement to Purdue Extension Office – Porter County by 4:30 pm on April 29, 2019. Your application will be reviewed by Nikky Witkowski, Extension Educator, Agriculture & Natural Resources. You will then be notified by the week of May 13.
