Aerospace Model Rocketry

Completed record sheets and manuals are due into the Extension Office on or before June 29, 2020, 4:00 PM. No records, or late/incomplete record sheets/manuals will result in an exhibit being considered for EXHIBITION ONLY—NO PLACING.

See page 24 of your Handbook for Poster Construction rules, and Reference list requirements (rule #9).

STATE FAIR EXHIBITS: Each County will be permitted to send one (1) rocket, remote control aircraft, or drone, and one (1) poster/display board in each grade catefory, for a maximum of six (6) exhibits.

PURPOSE: This project is designed to give members an opportunity to learn more about rockets, kites, hot air balloons, gliders, airplanes, helicopters, space shuttles, and how birds fly. Do you imagine yourself as an astronaut, or pilot, or an airline employee? This project will allow you to explore these careers, and participate in hands-on activities in the exciting field of aerospace. No "Ready to Fly" or E2X rockets are acceptable in the 4-H Aerospace project.

EXHIBIT REQUIREMENTS: Members choose one exhibit option listed for each year of project enrollment. Members are to bring display stands for their rockets. Launch pads are not permitted. All rockets must weigh less than 3.3 pounds and be considered an amateur rocket according to FAA regulations.

Remote control aircraft or drones may be constructed from a kit, or purchased ready-to-fly.

Level 1 (GRADES 3, 4 AND 5) "LIFT-OFF”
Each year, members are required to complete a minimum of three (3) required and/or optional activities. Within the 3 year project period, members should have completed a minimum of 9 activities.

* Exhibit a rocket of your choice, Estes Skill Level 1, or 2, or comparable difficulty.
OR * Exhibit a poster or display board on any topic in the manual.
OR *Exhibit a remote control aircrafts or drone of your choice that is age/grade appropriate and compliant with FAA regulations, federal and state laws, and local ordinances.  This exhibit choice is to include a notebook or poster including how the aircraft/drone was used and aerospace skills learned.  Displaying the aircraft or drone is optional.

***Cluster engine rockets and rockets that take an engine D or above are not permitted in this level.

Level 2 (GRADES 6, 7 AND 8) "REACHING NEW HEIGHTS"
Each year, members are required to complete a minimum of three (3) required and/or optional activities. Within the 3 year project period, members should have completed a minimum of 9 activities.

*Exhibit a rocket of your choice, Estes Skill Level 2, or 3, or comparable difficulty.
OR * Exhibit a poster or display board on any topic in the manual. 
OR *Remote control aircrafts or drone of your choice that is age/grade appropriate and compliant with FAA regulations, federal and state laws, and local ordinances.  This exhibit choice is to include a notebook or poster including how the aircraft/drone was used and aerospace skills learned.  Displaying the aircraft or drone is optional.

Level 3 (GRADES 9, 10, 11 AND 12) "PILOT IN COMMAND"
Each year, members are required to complete a minimum of three (3) required and/or optional activities. Within the 4 year project period, members should have completed a minimum of 12 activities. 

* Exhibit a rocket of your choice, Estes Skills Level 3 or above, or a Box Kite; or other aerodynamic object of your choice which illustrates principles of flight.
OR * Exhibit a poster or display board on any topic in the manual.
OR *Remote control aircrafts or drone of your choice that is age/grade appropriate and compliant with FAA regulations, federal and state laws, and local ordinances.  This exhibit choice is to include a notebook or poster including how the aircraft/drone was used and aerospace skills learned.  Displaying the aircraft or drone is optional.

 

***Rockets that take an engine G or above are not permitted.
