Gift Wrapping

OBJECTIVES:
To learn to wrap different shapes, and select proper box for the shape and type of gift. To learn how to place gift neatly in the box, and select the proper paper for the occasion and the receiver. To select the proper paper for the size and shape of the package. To learn wrapping procedure for rectangular, square and cylindrical packages. To learn how to make neat, tightly wrapped packages. To select the type of ribbon and/or trim that is best suited for the package. To learn to make the basic bows. To learn to design your own wrapping paper. To learn the importance of the overall appearance of a gift package.

General Information:
*All packages not to exceed 18" in any direction.
*Purchased bows will NOT be acceptable.
*Packages wrapped for exhibit should be empty. 
*All divisions MUST have a label attached to the bottom/underside of the package(s) with the following information:

*In advanced divisions, items may be used to replace ribbons, bows, or yarn; i.e. strips of fabric, pine cones, small articles, felt, burlap, flowers, etc.
*Books are available on the subject at local libraries, card shops, Hallmark stores, etc.
*Completed record sheets are due into the Extension Office on or before June 29, 2020, 4:00 PM. No records, or late/incomplete record sheets will result in an exhibit being considered for EXHIBITION ONLY—NO PLACING.

EXHIBIT REQUIREMENTS:

BEGINNER (grades 3, 4 and 5)
1. Must wrap five (5) packages during the year, not including the exhibit package.
2. Use self made bows.

EXHIBIT: Wrap one box, including a self made bow, try to show creativity. (Package for exhibit purposes should not contain an article.) Attach a label to the bottom of your package with the information requested above.

INTERMEDIATE (grades 6, 7 and 8)
1. Must wrap eight (8) packages during the year, not including the exhibit.
2. Combine ribbons - - kind, quantity, color, etc.
3. Add objects to bows.
4. Use flocked paper and/or fancy ribbon (lace, velvet, etc.)
5. Make a definite advancement over the previous year.

EXHIBIT: Wrap one cylinder shape. The 4-H'er must design his/her own wrapping and accessories. No commercial gift wrapping will be allowed. Show creativity in the materials chosen. Your package for exhibit should not contain an article. Attach a label to the bottom of your package with the information requested above.

ADVANCED (grades 9, 10, 11 and 12.)
1. Must wrap eight (8) packages during the year, not including exhibit.
2. One half of the packages must be wrapped with paper and accessories you designed.

EXHIBIT: Wrap one package of any shape. The 4-H'er must design his/her own wrapping and accessories. No commercial gift wrapping will be allowed. Judging will be on creativity and neatness. Packages for exhibit purposes should not contain an article. Attach a label to the bottom of your package with the information requested above.
