AREA IX CONTEST ENTRY: Top 3 Juniors and top 3 Seniors from the County Contest

STATE FAIR ENTRY: Top 3 Juniors and top 3 Seniors from Area Contest.

Juniors: Grades 3-7     Seniors: Grades 8-12

The 4-H agricultural tractor and machinery program provides information about agricultural tractors and machinery.  Youth develop project skills (i.e. principles of engine operation, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, safe operation) and life skills (i.e. decision making, using science and technology, developing communication skills).  Hands-on learning experiences are provided under the direction of knowledgeable adults serving as project leaders. 


At the county fair, 4-Hers will:

  1. Complete a written test of 25 multiple choice questions.
  2. Identify 25 tractor parts from pictures.
  3. Complete the tractor-driving course. Juniors will pull a 2-wheel trailer. Seniors will pull a 4-wheel wagon.

If a member is not able to participate in the Tractor Operator’s Contest, he or she may;

  1. Exhibit a standard 22” X 28” poster OR educational display relating to the Ag Tractor project.


Project leaders will host at least one workshop prior to the county fair to discuss safety, mower operation, and parts identification.  Members will have the opportunity to practice the driving course.
