Home Food Preservation!

Do you enjoy or want to learn about canning and freezing fruits and vegetables, making homemade jams and jellies, or try your hand at pickling foods?

You have an opportunity to take the Master Food Preserver course.

Purdue Extension Marshall County is offering a series of classes on safe food preservation techniques through the Master Food Preserver Program in Plymouth, Indiana. Purdue Extension Master Food Preservers will provide the instructional course work and preservation labs.

The Master Food Preserver course will be offered in Northern Indiana on the following dates from 9 AM – 5:00 PM at the Geneva Center Inc., 5282 N. Old Hwy 31, Rochester, IN 46975.

  1. Mon., Aug. 7, 2017                      Food Safety & Freezing Food
  2. Tues., Aug. 8, 2017                     Boiling Water Process
  3. Wed., Aug. 9, 2017                      Pressure Canning
  4. Thurs., Aug. 10, 2017                  Pickling & Drying Foods
  5. Fri. Aug. 11, 2017                       Jams & Jellies

Each session consists of lectures including hands-on laboratory food preservation activities. Participants will take home some product from each lab session.

Cost is $175 for the 5-day course and includes Master Food Preserver notebook, preservation resource, and lab materials. Register early as classes typically fill up 3 months out. Class size is limited to 14 persons.
