As part of the 2015 Indiana Small Farms Conference, Purdue Extension is offering three daylong workshops in Central Indiana on March 5. Register for a workshop at this link.

#1 Making Your Market Farm Work For You Led by Chris Blanchard, Flying Rutabaga Works
Location: Hendricks County Fairgrounds, lunch included
From big ideas down to practical examples, consultant, educator, and veteran farmer Chris Blanchard draws on 25 years of farming experience at a variety of scales to help you understand and control the factors that lead to a profitable market farm. Learn how you can put it all together, from weed control, irrigation, post-harvest handling, and marketing, to the management of employees and finances.

#2 Growing Hops Led by Lori Hoagland & Natasha Cerruti, Purdue Horticulture Dept.
Location: Hendricks County Fairgrounds, lunch included
Hops are hot in Indiana! This all-day workshop on hops growing will discuss supplies needed to establish a hopyard, how to manage pests that attack hops, and marketing strategies. The
workshop will feature national speakers with experience developing hop industries on the east coast, and growing and breeding hops in the Pacific Northwest. A networking hour with local beer will follow.

#3 Local Food and Farms Tour
Location: Begins at Caprini Creamery in Spiceland, IN, lunch included
Tour three fantastic Indiana food production sites in Hancock and Henry Counties. Tour stops include Tyner Pond Farm with pasture raised meat, Redbud Farm and Caprini Creamery with milk goats and cheesemaking, and Engleking’s Country Beef Shop. Participants will drive their own vehicle from location to location.
