Strawberry Delizz Detail

Purdue Extension will take gardeners through Backyard Fruit Production, a webinar series that offers opportunities to learn about fruit production practices.

The series will take place from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm EDT on March 12, 19, and 26 and April 2 & 9. The program will be held at 12 sites around the state using Webinar broadcasts. In central Indiana, you can participate in a local program in Indianapolis, Noblesville and Anderson. Participants also have the option to access the sessions from home via a high-speed internet connection.

Each day will feature a session that covers a topic important to fruit gardeners. The agenda includes:

* Session 1, March 12: Program Overview & “It All Begins with You”

* Session 2, March 19: Small Fruit is BIG in the Landscape

* Session 3, March 26: Small Fruits-What to be Watching For

* Session 4, April 2: Tree Fruit-Branching out!

* Session 5, April 9: Tree Fruits-What to be Watching For

Nikky Witkowski, Extension Educator, Purdue Extension-Lake County, is conducting this program. Witkowski says, “Families really like the idea of growing your own fresh produce. Youth can have a great time picking fruit right off the tree and adults learn how to select and manage the fruits they get. The various experts we have will assist you in the process.”

The series will speak to those that are looking at getting started in fruit growing. It will also offer a wealth of information for those that have been growing for many years as varieties of fruits will be discussed and current insect and disease issues brought up. This will be a great reminder of best practices in growing as well as a great way to get information on new tips and tricks for gardening.

A program brochure is below under Related Files. Registration is $40 per person for all sessions. The fee includes all handouts and resource materials.

You can register for the event at Please register online by March 5 (postal mail: February 26 deadline).
