The New Farmer Resource Guide (NFRG) is a list of resources and tools for beginning and transitional market farmers and gardeners. There is a plethora of empirical information from farmers and researchers available online and in print. To assist those wishing to pursue livelihoods in diversified agriculture, Purdue Extension – Marion County has compiled a list of helpful resources.

The table of contents lists resource categories in the guide which include:

These resources include books, DYI manuals, web links, publications, podcasts, webinars, and grant databases. All of the information in the NFRG is farmer-written or research-based. Whether you’re a greenhorn with little-to-no farming experience or an experienced farmer who wants to refine your operation and develop new skills, the tools in the NFRG will be beneficial. Although many of the resources are intended for farmers who are encountering new challenges, several resources are frequently referenced by farmers with years or decades of experience; consequently, these resources were included in the NFRG.

Most of the web-links and information in this guide are free aside from a few printed books and periodicals. If you want more resources like these, email Emily Toner,, to join the Urban Ag Notes e-newsletter.
