Purdue Extension in LaGrange County is offering an email-based walking program.
This program is called, Get WalkIN’ and it spans 12 weeks, with e-mail messages being sent twice weekly for the first four weeks and then weekly for the next eight weeks. These messages focus on self-efficacy, social support, and goal setting. Get WalkIN’ aims to promote increased physical activity through walking while also providing reliable information about the health benefits of walking. Resources guides and strategies are also provided to help participants start and/or help maintain a walking routine!
This program is unique in that it is entirely email-based. This program will begin January 2, 2020 and enrolled participants will receive e-mails over a 12-week time period.
There will be an optional weekly walking event at Maple Wood Nature Center. The walking group will start meeting on Jan. 4 and will meet every Saturday morning at 9am until March 7!
There is also a First Day Hike, January 1, 2020, at 5:30 p.m. at Dallas Lake Park Lodge. It is a luminary trail walk. There will be coffee and cocoa. First Day Hikes are a nationwide initiative to get people thinking about the benefits of outdoor exercise on day one! This is a free event.
