An informative and often lighthearted discussion about an established family-owned publishing business highlighted the annual Purdue Extension Board reorganization meeting on March 20th at Pine Knob Park near Howe. Outgoing board President Jeff Campos opened the meeting followed by supper provided by the Patchwork Patterns, a county Extension Homemakers group.

Matt Yeater, whose family has published The Farmers Exchange for some 88 years, was the board's guest.  As the paper's business manager and great grandson of the original founder, Yeater traced the history of the paper in the context of media evolution such as radio, television, the internet, mobile and other digital communications. Yeater was introduced by County Extension Director John Emerson, who complimented the many local print enterprises like The Farmers Exchange for supporting Purdue Extension and "keeping agriculture and youth involvement in front of people."

Following short updates by Emerson and Purdue Council on Agriculture, Research, Extension, and Teaching (PCARET) representative Shannon Schrock, new board president Theresa Clark convened the business meeting in which officers, committees, and dates for the next year were selected.

Stan Clark, an officer with Farmers State Bank, was chosen as President elect and current secretary Jennifer McBride was reelected for 2014-15.  The board's next meeting will be on June 26 in the LaGrange County Government Building.
