Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in Indiana? About 600,000 Americans die each year from heart disease, and in the U.S., someone has a heart attack every 34 seconds. Heart disease costs the U.S. $108.9 billion each year. Our hearts work incredibly hard our entire lives, and Purdue Extension's newest signature program "Be Heart Smart" is educating participants on keeping their hearts healthy and preventing heart disease.
Do you have diabetes or care for someone who does? If so, we hope you will attend "Dining with Diabetes", a cooking school for people with diabetes, at risk for diabetes, and caregivers of those with diabetes. Learn nutrition tips for eating with diabetes, and try some new foods! The program taught by Jackie Franks, HHS Educator, consists of four sessions with a two month follow-up session.
