Welcome Jay County 4-H Shooting Sports Members!
The 4-H Shooting Sports program is designed to provide youth with knowledge and encourage the care that can avoid accidents in the home and in the field. This program presents such subjects as proper handling and care of equipment, safety rules, learning to provide for your own and others’ safety, how to care for the shooting area and field responsibilities- all of which are essential to safe shooting activities.
As we prepare for another fun year of learning in the Shooting Sports program, we would like to remind everyone, youth and parents, of proper attire during meetings:
NO SHORTS NO SANDALS NO OPEN TOE SHOES NO TANK TOPS
Important Information to remember:
Hunter Education Course:
First-year 4-H members are recommended, but not required, to attend the Hunter ED Course for the 4-H Shooting Sports project. However, to be certified and eligible for a hunting license, youth need to attend both classes for the entire duration at Jay Conservation Club on Friday, March 6, 2020 from 6-9 pm and Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 8am-4pm. Lunch is provided Saturday. Please register prior to class at
First Club Meeting for Shooting Sports Sign-up and Orientation
The first club meeting will be held April 14th from 6-8 pm at the Jay County Conservation Club.
It is very important for both the members and parent/guardians to be present at this meeting. The 4-H Shooting Sports Club dues are $20 for 1 youth, $30 for 2 youth in one family, and $40 for 3 youth in one family and must be paid by April 28, 2020. This covers most of the cost of targets, ammunition, and supplies to be used during the program year.
Regular attendance at the club meetings is strongly encouraged. Shooting Sports, by nature, require dedication and practice. Youth who do not regularly attend club meetings will miss valuable shooting time, not to mention a lot of fun!
If your youth needs accommodations to participate in this project or has special dietary concerns, please contact the Purdue Extension Office (260) 726-4707, Monday – Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.
