Purdue Extension to Host Industrial Hemp 101 Program

Purdue Extension in Whitley County will be hosting an Industrial Hemp 101 program on April 8, 2020, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., via WebEx (online webinar format).

The program may be viewed from your home computer providing you have a good internet connection.

The meeting will not be held at the Whitley County 4-H Center, 680 West Squawbuck Road, Columbia City, IN, as originally advertised.

Much interest and momentum have been building regarding growing industrial hemp. While 2020 is a year devoted to research growers, what do you need to know if you want to get started growing hemp in 2021?

This program will focus on many of the topics potential growers need to know as they begin considering whether to grow this crop. Topics to be covered will include: general production models; managing pests, diseases, and weeds; hemp grown for research production vs. commercial production; the difference between industrial hemp and marijuana (from the Indiana State Seed Administrator’s perspective!); what do I need to do if I want to grow industrial hemp in 2021; and production issues and challenges.

On hand to deliver content for the evening will be Marguerite Bolt, Purdue hemp production specialist, and Don Robison, Seed Administrator, Office of the Indiana State Chemist and Seed Commissioner.

The event is free. However, all who wish to participate should call 260-244-7615 by April 3 to register with your name, phone number and email address (must have email). A connection link will be sent to all registrants. Alternatively, you may email the program coordinator, John Woodmansee, at

Cost: FREE (Call to reserve spot at 260-244-7615)
