PIGEONS

RULES

  1. All pigeons must be delivered to Memorial Park between 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 13.
  2. Pigeons will be judged Monday, July 14, 9:00 am.
  3. Fair entry paperwork must be turned in to the Extension Office by July 1. Birds entered after the entry deadline will receive only a completion ribbon and will not be eligible for any other awards.
  4. Two entries per class by each exhibitor permitted. Classes include: (1) cock; (2) young hen: (3) old cock; (4) old hen. Color classes will be made up if entries permit.
  5. Birds entered in the incorrect class will be ineligible to show.
  6. Birds must be banded to show at State Fair. Bands are to be of correct size and of a recognized pigeon organization.
  7. Small classes will be combined to provide competition.
  8. Birds showing signs of sickness or external parasites are to be removed from the fairgrounds.
  9. Placing ribbons from one to eight will be awarded.
  10. See Rules 7-8 below for conditions to show at the fair.
  11. Placing of pigeons will be placed on name card, after the show. 4-H'er may go to fair office to request their ribbons.

POULTRY

RULES

  1. All poultry must be delivered to Memorial Park between 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 13.
  2. Poultry must be identified by the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection (book available in the Extension Office) Any birds not meeting the Standard will be awarded a completion ribbon.
  3. Any bird not listed in American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection will be put into a commercial/crossbred class.
  4. 4-H members wishing to participate in showmanship must register at the time of check-in on Sunday, July 13.
  5. Poultry will be judged on a one to eight places and completion basis.
  6. All Poultry must be blood tested by the poultry leaders in order to show at the fair or originated from an NPIP Flock or Hatchery.
  7. Birds showing signs of sickness or external parasites are to be removed from the fairgrounds.
  8. A Henry County Livestock Record Sheet MUST be turned in with your green folder.

  12. All birds will be released on Tuesday, July 15 at 8pm. All sale animals must return Thursday, July 17 prior to the auction.

 

SHOWMANSHIP RULES:

Junior – Age 13 & under

Senior – Age 14 & over

 

  • 4-H participant will be required to bring (1) bird to the judge.
  • 4-H participant must know the different parts of the bird.
  • 4-H participant will be required to answer questions pertaining to the bird when asked by the judge.
  • 1st, 2nd, etc. place ribbons will be awarded in each division. The 1st place winner of each division will be the champion.

 

CLASSES

  • Pair of Pullets
  • Pair of Hens
  • Single Pullet
  • Single Cockerel ] Open to all Breeds
  • Single Hen ] Standards & Bantams
  • Single Old Cock
  • Pen of 2 Fryers

Classes for Gamebirds and Waterfowl will also be arranged for those interested.

NOTE: Hens and Pullets shown as a pair will not be eligible for single classes. Maximum of 2 entries per class (i.e. singles, fryers, meats, etc.) for poultry show.

 

Poultry Display Boards and Poultry Science Displays will have three levels for each:

Level 1 for 4-H'ers grades 3-4-5

Level 2 for 4-H'ers grades 6-7-8

Level 3 for 4-H'ers grades 9-10-11-12

 

All poultry display boards must be brought to the Smith Building for judging on July 11, 5-8 pm. One display board and one science display from each age level will be accepted at State Fair.
