The focus of forest science is increasingly shifting to the management of forests. This new publication "Breeding Birds and Forest Management: the Hardwood Ecosystem Experiment and the Central Hardwoods Region" summarizes the effects of forest management on bird species. As we gain knowledge of how forest management affects not only timber production, but also the overall function of the forested ecosystem, we can then improve the ecological value and have an increase in the economic return.
Planting cover crops could help preserve healthy soil in fields that have been left empty this year because of flooding, according to a new article by Purdue agronomist Eileen Kladivko and Barry Fisher, Indiana state soil health specialist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
A Salamander Tale Exhibit
