Continued efforts are made to save the Eastern Hellbender as numbers continue to decline. This Saturday, August 29th, the Columbian Park Zoo in Lafayette, Indiana, is hosting a special event in honor of the hellbender salamanders. Those attending will learn more about the largest salamander in North America and how eggs are being protected to help save the hellbenders.

This very wet summer has tested some ponds ability to hold and safely release excess water. Bob Rode, Extension Aquaculture Specialist, shares how overflow structures, along with other management practices, can aid in the goal of a safe and healthy pond.

Brian MacGowan, extension wildlife specialist, shares how providing wildlife with quality habitat that contains the necessary food, cover and water resources gives them a fighting chance to deal with issues that inevitably arise.
