The Indiana General Assembly is in session, and the House has proposed a budget for the 2017-19 biennium. It includes a $1 increase in the cigarette tax, raising the rate to $1.995 per pack. It may or may not pass, the Senate may or may not agree, and the governor will have to weigh in, too. Still, there's sure to be debate. So let's look at some facts about the cigarette tax.
Young women who are interested in agricultural careers will have the opportunity to learn about their future roles in the industry at the Young Ladies of Agriculture Northern Indiana Forum. This event is open to girls and young women in grades 8-12 and is held in conjunction with the Midwest Women in Agriculture Conference. It will take place Feb. 22, 4-8 p.m. at the Swan Lake Resort, 5203 Plymouth LaPorte Trail, Plymouth.

This year's Indiana Small Farm Conference begins with a series of workshops and a tour of some of the state's most innovative urban agriculture operations. The daylong workshops will be offered March 2, at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds and Conference Center, 1900 E. Main St., Danville.
Conservation through Community Leadership identity
Purdue Extension's new Conservation through Community Leadership (CCL) program is now accepting applications for the inaugural community action planning CCL meetings. This new program guides community groups, boards, and commissions through facilitated action planning sessions to support locally driven natural resource management strategies and policy.
