JUNE 21: INDIANA STATE BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION SUMMER FIELD DAY
This event will be held at the Entomology Field Operations Building near campus and nearby apiaries. The workshop will begin with sessions covering topics about ways to troubleshoot problems in hives, how to install bees, hive and equipment inspections, grafting, and setting up starter hives with swarm boxes. Other sessions in the afternoon will cover topics like adding queen cells to the hive, making splits and nucs, and how to check the status of the queen.  The cost to attend this field day is $20 per person, which includes lunch. JUNE 24 & 25: INDIANA FARM MANAGEMENT
The 2008 Farm Management Tour will take place in Bartholomew and Jackson counties. This year the tour showcases four farms and one family owned and operated greenhouse. One of the stops includes a certified organic dairy. Participants will visit five stops, each one hitting on the theme of ways to save and earn money on the operation. The tour will begin at 1 p.m. on June 24 and will conclude around 3 p.m. on June 25. There is no cost for this event, but preregistration is required if participants want to eat the meals provided or go on the twilight walk of Irwin Gardens. JUNE 26: PURDUE UNIVERSITY FORAGE DAY
Purdue Forage Day will take place near Jonesboro in Grant County. The hosts for this year's event are Gary and Ann Hoddupp, who plant alfalfa and grass mixes for hay. This year's field day will offer presentations on a wide variety of topics, including the proper amount of fertilizer to apply to your field, double cropping after the harvest of winter wheat and discussion of the Indiana sales tax on forage products. JULY 8: SUMMER AQUACULTURE WORKSHOP
The Indiana Soybean Alliance, in partnership with Purdue Extension, will host free aquaculture workshops this summer. The first one will be July 8 in Miami County, on the cage culture of fish. Participants will learn about different types of fish that are raised in cages. At the end of the workshop a tour of Sweetwater Springs Fish Farm, which specializes in dealing with fish and cage culture, will be offered. JULY 8: 2008 PURDUE WEED DAY
This event will begin at 9 a.m. at the Beck Educational Center, located about seven miles from Purdue's campus. During the field day participants will receive the chance to look at the corn and popcorn trials that were planted in late April and early May. Discussion on the weeds and treatment for them will be covered while touring the different trials. JULY 11: SUMMER AQUACULTURE WORKSHOP
This is the second of six in a series of workshops on aquaculture and ways for people to start raising and selling their own fish. The location for this workshop is the Salem Chapel United Methodist Church in LaPorte County. Recirculating the culture of fish is the focus of the workshop. After the session there will be a tour of Mixsawnah State Fish Hatchery to see how they deal with the recirculating culture of their fish. The sponsors are Purdue University and the Indiana Soybean Alliance. This workshop is free but due to limited seating participants must pre-register to secure a spot at indianafishfarming.com. JULY 15: MIDWEST REGIONAL TURF FIELD DAY
The Midwest Regional Turf Field Day will take place at the WH Daniel Turfgrass Research and Diagnostic Center at Purdue. In the morning participants will be able to take tours of the lawn and sports turf research area where crabgrass control, efficient fertilizer programs, and hot weather diseases of ornamentals will be discussed. After lunch, a trade show and equipment demonstrations will take place, followed by workshops. The workshops will cover weed control in lawns. Registration is due by June 30, and the cost is $30 for members, $40 for non-members, or $125 for companies who are members of the Midwest Regional Turf Foundation. JULY 20-23: 41ST ANNUAL TOP FARMER CROP WORKSHOP
This three-day workshop, which begins at 3 p.m. July 20 at Purdue University, will cover a wide variety of topics related to farming. Some of the topics that will be discussed include information on ways to save and earn more money. Information on the latest technology advancements in the farming industry, weather, soil conditions, and ways to deal with the rise in food and fuel prices are just a few of the topics covered during the workshop sessions. JULY 24: ORGANIC PRODUCTION AND PROCESSING –TRANSITIONING TO ORGANIC
The 2008 Farm Sustainability Tour continues on July 24 at Langeland Farms in Decatur County, with a workshop on organic food production. Participants will visit different farms in Decatur County that use organic practices. One of the keynote speakers will be Gary Reding, who will talk about the organic practices used on Langeland Farms including the transition of the farm from non-organic to a certified organic farm. JULY 28: TWILLIGHT ORGANIC TOUR
This event will take place on July 28 at the Southwest Purdue Ag Center in Vincennes. The tour will cover several different topics on organic farming. Some of the topics include the definition of organic, the process for organic certification, cover crops, soil fertility, and ways to control weeds and insects. JULY 31: TRI-STATE CONSERVATION TILLAGE CONFERENCE
This conference will talk about ideas for farmers to save resources and time by using conservation tillage methods in their food production operations. The seminar, which will take place at the Vanderburgh County Fairgrounds, will feature various guest speakers from Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. They will present topics such as no-till con an wheat planted in a continuous rotation, the ideal habitat for soil biology, information on cover crops, and a session on how to apply your knowledge about no-till to your farm.
