Jackson County - Soybeans

Youth participating in the soybeans project will learn how to select seeds, grow and maintain their crops, and select and harvest the plants and / or grains for exhibit.

There are no manuals used for this project. Please complete your project according to the exhibit guidelines and scorecard provided. If you have further questions please contact the Jackson County Purdue Extension Office.

4-H member must fill out a record sheet to be turned in with the green / white record book. 

Exhibit options (Can do one or both):

Peck of soybean seeds
  1. Exhibit one peck (8 quarts or 1/4 bushel) of seed in sack furnished by member. 
  2. One exhibit per member.
full grown plants
  1. Exhibit five full grown plants (including roots) tied together to hand upside down.
  2. On one of the plants, using shopping tags or 3"x5" cards, correctly identify and label five exterior plant parts.

There will be three divisions divided according to members' grades: Beginner (Grades 3 - 5), Intermediate (Grades 6 - 8), Advanced (Grades 9 - 12). Exhibit options are the same for all youth in grades 3 - 12.

Note: There will be a champion in each division and one overall grand champion soybean exhibit.
